Ferme du Vigneron, an idyllic holiday home in Provence, France

Winter is a fabulous season because the light here is quite different. The sky has a really special color and the weather is dry.

Ferme du Vigneron, a former French vintner’s farm in Vaison-la-Romaine, is now available to rent through Welcome Beyond, a website promoting only truly memorable holiday destinations worldwide and places that are stylish as well as authentic.

Close to Avignon in the South of France — a 90 minute drive from Marseille — lies Ferme du Vigneron, a holiday home transformed out of ruins by interior designer (and former veterinary doctor) Meilin Bristiel. It is set up on a hill and surrounded by one hectare of grounds and gardens with a wild Mediterranean forest. The terrace, the patio and the lounging areas with daybeds are perfect places to enjoy the panoramic views of the unspoiled landscape, changing with each season.

“Winter is a fabulous season because the light here is quite different. The sky has a really special colour and the weather is dry. It can be cold, but it's sunny. Everything is quiet then,” owner Meilin recommends. The furniture is a style mix from different periods. The fireplace, the terra-cotta floors of the guest suite, and all of the main house’s doors are reclaimed from old properties. The house itself was run-down and abandoned for about 10 years, until Meilin and her husband decided to buy and transform it into the welcoming holiday accommodation that they are now glad to share.

A famous cheese maker, an incredible patisserie, a Roman theatre in the ancient part of town, and a weekly market that goes back to Roman times are only some of Vaison-la-Romaine’s highlights. The area spoils its visitors with many summer concerts, exceptional wine tastings and miles of car-free roads going up to the pre-Alps.
