"What Would You Do With This Room?" Now Available for the Holidays
Lewison, a Los Angeles-based interior designer, uses his mantra, "Keep it simple, keep it simple, keep it simple," to reinforce his design approach. Chapter by chapter he encourages the reader to combine their lifestyle and interests with a fearless approach to creative home design.
"Almost every week, someone asks me what I would do to turn a problem room into a beautiful space, a sanctuary," says Lewison. "Over the years, I've honed my approach to ten basic commandments. This book shows people with little or no design experience how to infuse their own personality into their home to create comfortable and distinctive living spaces."
The book is divided into three sections. The first section offers a list of ten easy-to-remember design commandments and examples of how those commandments can be applied to any room. The second section covers the guidelines for carrying out creative design. It effectively demonstrates the ways in which design elements and traditions can be mixed to reinvent living spaces, turning rooms into balanced, beautiful and personal expressions. The final section, "Dear Mark," takes a look at real-world examples. Using humor and insight, Mark tackles home decorating that has gone wrong and shares tips for creative thinking and planning that can be used to make over the space.
The book contains a 58 page appendix exploring color usage, window and floor treatments, lighting, fabrics and textures. Companion materials have also been developed for the book, including exclusive online content and a downloadable bonus book titled, "How Do I Hire An Interior Designer?: Tips for Finding, Hiring, and Working with an Interior Design Professional on Your Budget." A software application, "Mark On Call," scheduled for release in December 2008, will let users create floor plans and experiment with color and pattern selection. Features will allow users to create, save and share their room designs; and render a personal color, fabric or finish onto any item or surface in the room. The application will also include a room checkout list that applies the ten commandments of interior design to their living space.
