University Services’ pm-Assist® service now offers additional opportunities to medical professionals and insurance companies including diagnostic pathway determination, shipping of home sleep testing devices, treatment prescriptions, and coordinating PAP treatment and follow-up.

“pm-Assist® has grown the past two years into a full service program that completes a medical professional or insurance company’s needs when it comes to home sleep testing,” commented Dr. Benjamin Gerson

Since its launch in March 2011, University Services’ pm-Assist® Sleep Scoring & Interpretation Services’ Board Certified Sleep Physicians have completed thousands of diagnostic home sleep testing interpretations for a diverse range of clients, and the program has been expanded to include four new services to complete a company’s home sleep testing business.

First, pm-Assist® provides insurance companies, third party claim administrators, and medical professionals with a cost containment service specifically targeting Obstructive Sleep Apnea. The service is a diagnostic pathway determination through an in-laboratory polysomnography (PSG) or home sleep study for an individual. Pm-Assist®’s medical professionals will review the medical history and clinically validated sleep questionnaires to determine whether or not an individual is an acceptable candidate for a home sleep study or would be better suited for an in-laboratory sleep study.

Second, as an option for clients who do not have their own home sleep testing device, pm-Assist® coordinates the shipping logistics of a home sleep testing device with an individual, helps him or her set up the device to wear before bed, and organizes return shipping. Pm-Assist® works with multiple home sleep testing devices and can determine the best device that would benefit the patient. This component has a chain of custody option if the individual performs a safety-sensitive job function.

Additionally, pm-Assist®’s Board Certified Sleep Physicians, who are collectively medically licensed in all fifty states, can, when appropriate, write the prescription for treating an individual who received a diagnostic report from pm-Assist®. This will allow medical professionals to handle the next level of patient care by not only diagnosing the individual using a home sleep test, but also administering his or her care.

Lastly, pm-Assist® now coordinates positive airway pressure (PAP) treatment with the individual, ships the PAP flow generator and supplies, and monitors compliance to treatment for individuals nationwide. This next level of attention has been proven to increase the success of treatment for PAP therapy in individuals and the benefits of treatment can be felt after the first night of use.

“pm-Assist® has grown the past two years into a full service program that completes a medical professional or insurance company’s needs when it comes to home sleep testing,” commented Dr. Benjamin Gerson, Chief Medical Director of University Services. “Often times the improvement of the program has resulted from our own customers’ requests, which has developed into services we can now offer to everyone,” added Dr. Gerson. Pm-Assist® offers each of these four additional benefits as part of a complete program or through an à la carte service.

University Services will introduce the expansion of pm-Assist® at the upcoming American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine Annual Meeting in Baltimore from May 30th – June 1st.
