Using BuildZoom, Homes for Our Troops is able to connect with highly qualified contractors on home improvement projects for US vets.

Marine Sergeant Marshall Kennedy and his team were on a routine clearance mission in Afghanistan on June 13, 2011 when the unimaginable happened. Sgt. Kennedy, the husband and father of two young sons, was watching out for his fellow Marines when he stepped on the pressure plate of an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) and was thrown through the air and into a nearby wall. He remained conscious throughout the ordeal. Tragically, both his legs had to be amputated. He has bravely endured more than 35 surgeries to date.

These are the types of veterans that the non-profit organization, Homes for Our Troops, seeks to assist by raising donations of money, building materials, and labor to construct homes for the most severely injured veterans.

“Our goal is to help restore the freedom and independence our vets have lost serving
this country and provide them with a specially designed home that enables that to happen,” Jennifer Reed, manager of public relations and marketing communications, explained.

“Living in a specially adapted home provided by Homes for Our Troops will make our transition to civilian life and our daily living so much easier,” Sgt. Kennedy said. “This is truly a blessing for our family.” His wife, Chelsie, added, “Just for him to get around on his own, I know will do wonders for his spirit and independence.”

Homes for Our Troops collaborated with BuildZoom to find contractors to work on the new home for Sgt. Kennedy and will be supporting them with future project initiatives.
