Families vacationing at Honua Kai Resort & Spa on Maui will find generous floor plans and fine appointments throughout the guest suite and public areas, together with a fully-appointed kitchen and family activities.

The new 38-acre resort opened phase one January 2009 and features 318 one-, two- and three-bedroom suites starting at 580 square feet of interior space. The suites include separate sleeping and living areas, a king bed and queen-size sofa bed, and a large lanai.

The gourmet kitchens are complete with stainless steel Bosch refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, microwave, washer/dryer and everything needed to prepare full meals or quick snacks. Guests may stock up on organic produce and free range meats and fish, pantry staples, beverages, beer and wine at Maui Chef James McDonald's `Aina Gourmet Market onsite. The market doubles as a sundry shop.

The opening year 2009 rates start at $260 per night for the Ohana Resort View category and 35 percent off published rack rates in all categories. Rates are valid through December 18, 2009, based upon double occupancy.

Services and amenities on property include the following:

  •     Full-service concierge desk open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  •     Valet parking, self parking and bell services
  •     Daily housekeeping and replenish fine linens, bath and kitchen products
  •     Welcome in-room kit that includes ground coffee packets, dishwashing soap, laundry soap, kitchen linens
  •     Room service provided by `Aina Market Café
  •     Resort charging privileges for all family members or select members

Activities for Busy Families
Families may also enjoy a stroll on the beach path fronting the resort that connects North Beach to Kaanapali Beach, the shopping hub of Whalers Village and nightlife attractive to teens and adults.

The youngest family members may even walk right into the ocean from the sandy beach fronting the Resort where a living coral reef provides food and shelter for an abundance of sea life creating an underwater show to rival any other snorkel spot on Maui.

Birdwatchers gather near a small wetland pond and dune on the 38-acre property that is being restored with indigenous beach plants, creating a healthy habitat that is drawing increasing numbers of migratory and water birds.

Children ages 5 through 12, and their family members, can join the fully-supervised, year-round Family Fun Club. The daily program runs 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and includes lunch for $70 per child and $65 for each additional sibling. Parents attend free of charge with participating children. A half day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or noon to 4 p.m. is $50 per child.
