Malice Domestic finalist Terry Hoover has signed with Gale/Five Star Publishing to publish her debut mystery, Double Dead, in January 2007. The book’s first chapter is online at http://www.hoovermysteries.com.
The book is set in Charlotte, NC, circa 1961. Square in the middle of the mystery is a prominent banker who has a talent for making money as well as an alleged mistress with a penchant for the bottle. She turns up dead. Did the banker kill her? Or was the bottle to blame?
This is what reporter turned private eye Steve Harlan is hired to determine before a jury makes a date for his client to visit the gas chamber.
Terry Hoover, a Malice Domestic grant winner, has been writing for local, regional and national publications and corporate clients for 20 years. She is president of both the Guppies, a Sisters in Crime chapter for its unpublished members, and the Tarheel Gumshoes, a local Sisters in Crime chapter.
Double Dead, a finalist in the Malice Domestic St. Martin’s Press contest for Best First Traditional Mystery, is the first book in the Steve Harlan series. Hoover, a native of Charlotte, NC, where Double Dead is set, now lives just outside the city, with her husband, a public relations consultant.
Five Star Publishing -- an imprint of Thomson Gale -- publishes about 150 books per year in the mystery, western and romance genres. It focuses on the library market, where more than half of its books are sold on standing order.
