[Military families] are truly the unsung heroes of this war and it is an honor to talk about the courage, dedication, and countless unselfish acts they have shown over the past ten years.

On Wednesday, April 17, 2013, Hope For The Warriors® will honor combat wounded service members, their families, and families of the fallen at the Got Heart, Give Hope® Gala at The Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium, Washington, D.C. The guest speakers for the evening will be Karen Kelly, spouse of General John F. Kelly, USMC and Deborah Mullen, spouse of retired Admiral Michael Mullen, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. Hope For The Warriors® is a national nonprofit organization that assists combat wounded service members, their families, and families of the fallen.

Together, Kelly and Mullen have more than 70 years of experience leading military families. Through their personal skills, struggles and tragedies, they understand, firsthand, the importance of a strong military family. They join Hope For The Warriors® in embracing and cherishing each military spouse, mother, father, and child. Both women refer to military families as the “unsung heroes” of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Kelly has served alongside her husband for more than 35 years. She has also served as the mother of two Marines, one who was killed in action in 2010.

"It is a privilege for me to be invited to speak about our military families,” said Kelly. “They are truly the unsung heroes of this war and it is an honor to talk about the courage, dedication, and countless unselfish acts they have shown over the past ten years."

"Our military families are truly unsung heroes,” said Mullen. “They serve every bit as much as our troops and have stood by each other and their loved ones through extraordinary challenges."

Hope & Courage Awards will be presented to each honoree by actor Gary Sinise at the Gala. Recipients of Hope & Courage Awards include representatives from each branch of the military in addition to family members of wounded and fallen service members. Hope For The Warriors® carefully chooses honorees by focusing on the hope they inspire through their remarkable stories of recovery and achievement.

“The courage and perseverance displayed by our servicemen and women during difficult times is a constant inspiration. I am thankful for their shining example of service above self,” Sinise said. “It will be my humble privilege to honor some of our nation's bravest patriots at this year's Got Heart, Give Hope® Gala.”

Sinise is a member of the nonprofit’s advisory council and the founder of the Gary Sinise Foundation. Hope For The Warriors® is one of the foundation’s charity partners. This will be his fourth year hosting the Gala.

Country singer James Wesley will be the musical guest for the evening. Wesley is a GAC Top 20 Country Singer and singer of the hit singles, Thank a Farmer , Didn’t I and Real. He has performed for Hope For The Warriors® in the past and is devoted to supporting service members and military families.

"I feel very fortunate to be asked back to perform for the Got Heart, Give Hope® Gala,” Wesley said. “Last year was an incredible experience for me to witness first-hand the resilience and strength of our men and women that serve this great country."
