New York, NY (PRWEB) October 30, 2012
GalaxyVisions, the New York metropolitan area's leading provider of Internet hosting solutions, announced today that it will donate 10% of profit to breast cancer research from each new virtual private server plan ordered now through the end of November.
The announcement coincides with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which seeks to promote breast cancer awareness, share information and provide greater access to services for those who suffer from the disease.
"GalaxyVisions is proud to make a charitable contribution to this very important research," said Ray Sidler, GalaxyVisions' Chief Executive Officer and co-founder. "GalaxyVisions is making a difference by helping our customers make a difference."
Experts estimate that 1 in 8 women (or about 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetimes. Last year, about 230,480 new cases were diagnosed in women and about 39,520 were estimated to die from the disease. For women in the U.S., breast cancer death rates are higher than those for any other cancer except lung cancer.
"This fight is for our sisters, our daughters, our wives," Sidler said. "It starts with awareness and early detection but doesn't stop there. Millions are needed to fund more research into finding a cure, and GalaxyVisions is happy to be able to play a small part in the work toward victory."
National Breast Cancer Awareness Month was started in 1985 as a partnership between the American Cancer Society and a pharmaceutical company that would eventually become part of AstraZeneca. The goal was to promote mammography and early detection as the best weapons against the disease. The pink ribbon became the symbol of the cause in 1993, when Evelyn Lauder of the Estee Lauder Companies founded the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Today, a number of national public service organizations, medical associations and government agencies collaborate during the month of October to bring awareness of breast cancer, share information about the disease and provide greater access to services for detecting and combating it.
