The creators behind Hotblack, the luxury sports watch that provides football fans with real-time football scores, have unveiled a new feature for the watch. Hotblack will now come with the ability to display custom data. Those who back the campaign and pre-order Hotblack will also be granted access to a control interface that will allow them to transform their watch into a custom notification portal.
World of Warcraft players, for example, can program Hotblack to alert them when their clan is being attacked. Facebook users can link their Hotblack watch to their Facebook to see how many notifications they have, when they have them. Those managing tech support teams can use their Hotblack to monitor how many open tickets they have.
Hotblack was originally designed to display football scores in real-time. By pairing Hotblack with the Hotblack mobile app through Bluetooth technology, users could choose to have match data from any team across the globe displayed on their watch. Utilizing this same technology, users will also be able to submit requests for the Hotblack server to retrieve XML data relating to any number of events from the web, and then use XSLT code to transform that data to a pointer position.
“The feedback we got from the first two weeks of the Kickstarter campaign was that people loved the concept, but each person wanted it to show something different," says Richard Hoptroff, managing director. “So let a thousand flowers bloom. Display whatever data you want. The only limitation is your imagination.”
All of the data is shown on Hotblack’s four-dial analog watch face. The main dial displays the time, while the sub-dials display custom data depending on the time of day. When a football match is going on, for example, the sub-dials display the match results in real-time, including score and time elapsed. When a custom event is occurring that the user has chosen to be notified about, the sub-dials display that data instead.
Hotblack is built for durability and is constructed from some of the strongest materials available. The band and casing are constructed from 316L brushed stainless steel. Grade 316L stainless steel, also commonly known as “standard marine grade,” is used often in marine and medical applications because of its high resistance to corrosion. The face is hand-cut from scratch-proof Sapphire glass, which is second only to diamond on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, while the rear face is cut from onyx. Onyx, chosen for its black color, also helps to improve the range of the Bluetooth receiver in the watch.
“Hotblack is designed to be a bridge between yesterday and today,” says Hoptroff. “The watch is an homage to classic horology that is complete with the technological advancements of the present, a beautiful combination of luxury and innovation.”
