Chilean Government Awards Hotel Management Software Team Innovation Grant

Tech team aims to lower costs and improve inventory distribution for the hospitality and travel industries.

Two of the original founders of hotel management software company Frontdesk Anywhere Inc Joe Kiernan and Thomas Lyle and a former lead user experience researcher at Google have been honored with an innovation grant from the government of Chile. The team is working to improve inventory distribution within the hospitality and travel spaces.

Start-Up Chile, a program created by the Chilean Government, was established to identify high-potential entrepreneurs and foster innovation. The program awards promising organizations a grant to further their work. Stanford University’s Center for Entrepreneurial Studies works closely with Start-Up Chile officials to screen the over 650 companies and organizations that typically apply in a session. Only the most innovative and promising teams are awarded the $40,000 grant.

The team believes that the ever lowering prices for technology along with people using the Web more and more in their daily lives is bringing about an opportunity to solve longstanding distribution issues in the travel industry. “Waypoint Labs is working to solve inefficiencies in the travel space that end-up costing companies, and thus travelers, hundreds of millions of dollars every year” said co-founder Thomas Lyle. Waypoint Labs is the name of the team used to represent them for the Start-Up Chile application.

“We are flattered that Start-Up Chile sees such promise in our approach and its potential to disrupt the status quo” said Joe Kiernan. “We’ve learned a lot over the past number of years building one of the leading web-based hotel management software systems and have a clear vision of where the industry is headed. We aim to be out in front leading that charge.”
