Sequel Lifestyle Hotels and Resorts is pleased to announce that a hotel management agreement has been signed with the historic Gladstone Hotel in Toronto, Ontario.
Located in the city’s trendy Queen West neighbourhood, the Gladstone is Toronto’s oldest continuously operating hotel. Lovingly restored by the Zeidler family in 2005, the Gladstone is home to 37 artist-designed guest rooms including eclectic favourites like Queen Suite of Queen Street which fuses the graffiti-tagged back alleys of Queen Street with the property’s Victorian past, or the peaceful and contemplative Sugarbush room that reminds guests of a snow-blanketed Ontario winter, complete with galvanized sap buckets as lampshades.
Well known for its distinctive and continued contribution to the arts, the Gladstone is host to a variety of exhibits and installations throughout the year. The hotel’s public space and common areas act as a living gallery, displaying works of both distinguished and up and coming Canadian artists and designers on a continuous basis.
With its earth-to-table inspired cuisine, the hotel’s Gladstone Café is a popular mainstay for the local community and visiting guests. The restaurant’s Harvest Wednesday’s feature farm-fresh fare and an opportunity to experience the unparalleled flavour of foods harvested in the natural rhythm of the local growing season. Another local hotspot, Melody Bar, is an institution for music lovers and features live musical acts, as well as the much-loved karaoke Fridays and Saturdays.
"As we actively expand our collection of lifestyle hotels in Canada, we are delighted to add the Gladstone," says Sequel’s President and COO Anne Larcade. “The addition of this iconic Toronto property to our hotel management portfolio strengthens our position in urban markets and offers our guests a truly unique accommodation experience. The team of hospitality professionals at the property are passionate and dedicated and we are very excited to work with them in the next chapter of the Gladstone” she adds.
Gladstone owner, Christina Zeidler notes, ‘The Gladstone is a values-based business that believes in crafting an authentic, creative and sustainable experience for our guests and we recognize Sequel’s ongoing success and innovation in managing unique properties,’ she says. ‘Sequel embodies the vision and philosophy we were looking for in a hotel management company. Its team is well suited to achieve our goals for success,’ she offers.
