Robert Leyva brings more than a decade of hospitality experience to his new role as General Manager for Valencia Group’s new Hotel Sorella Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, Mo. His extensive background in food and beverage, sales and operations, along with his tenure with Valencia Group, were pivotal in his promotion as the property’s new leader.
Leyva joined Valencia Group in 2002 as part of the preopening team of Hotel Valencia Riverwalk and assumed dual roles of Catering Sales Manager and Banquet Manager. He quickly earned the opportunity to become the Director of Food and Beverage, which springboarded him into Director of Operations, and most recently to Hotel Manager at Hotel Valencia Riverwalk in San Antonio. As Valencia Group has continued to expand its brand, he has been instrumental in opening other Valencia Group properties as a preopening programmer, which includes training an opening team and managing preopening dollars.
Leyva began his hospitality career in 1999 as part of the preopening team at Westin La Cantera Resort, a Starwood property. Soon after, he gained experience while working with Local Arrangements – a destination management company – and the Paseo del Rio Association, an association responsible for the promotion and production of special events for the San Antonio Riverwalk. Prior to joining Valencia Group, Leyva worked with La Mansion del Rio Hotel, an independent luxury hotel on the River Walk.

Leyva holds a B.A. from the University of Texas at San Antonio Tourism Management Program. He has served as a board member in his community for various art, cultural and charitable organizations and feels strongly about immersing in and embracing each locale’s local flavor.
