The reporting shows a decrease in nearly all crimes recorded in Houston, TX compared to last year. Chief of Police Charles A. McClelland, Jr. and various other law enforcement agencies in the area have stepped up their efforts to cut down on crime and aren't relenting as the holiday season commences. Recently McCelland participated in local National Night Out events where he said "the National Night Out is a time for law enforcement and ordinary citizens, business to refocus on our efforts to combat crime". The Houston Police Department has also published a number of press releases focused on how citizens can protect themselves during the holidays.
