The outstanding team at Russell & Smith Honda of Houston, Texas has received a well-earned piece of recognition. They have been awarded the 2011 Dealer Rater Award for Car Dealer of the Year. Managed by Jack Carney and Mark Rehkopf, Russell & Smith Auto Group originally became affiliated with the DealerRater network in 2009, and this is the first time they've been the recipient of accolades from the review site. Time will tell if they find themselves at the top next year. Each annual award is based only on the reviews that are submitted during that year's time. The award process began with an announcement of the selection of a pool of finalists in January. The pool of finalists consisted of 30 different categories, including every major auto manufacturer as well as an independent used car category. 138 finalists were named in total, each of which contained 4 to 5 dealerships. Winners were selected according to a Bayesian algorithm, which weighs number of review submissions against the score that each reviewer gave, producing a 'PowerScore.' Every normal score assigned to a review is measured on a 0.0 to 5.0 decimal scale. The algorithm allows for dealers that say, got a total of 50 reviews, 30 of which were scored 5.0, to not unfairly lose out to a dealer that received only 26 reviews, all of which were 5.0. Additionally, in order for a dealer to qualify for the running they must have a minimum of 25 reviews over the twelve month year-to-date review time and an average PowerScore over 4.0.
When it came time to assign the awards, Russell & Smith Honda was #1 with a total of 160 personal reviews and an average PowerScore of 4.9. A total of 31 awards were given for top dealers in each category, Russell & Smith Honda was awarded the top Honda dealership honor in addition to the top overall car dealership award for 2011.
