We don’t want to see the unofficial end of summer become the end to anyone’s life, health, or even their driving privileges because of drunken driving.

Brad T. Wyly, a veteran Houston personal injury attorney, today urged Texas drivers to observe the rules of the road and avoid driving after drinking during the upcoming Labor Day weekend.

“The days preceding the Labor Day weekend are a good time to think about approaching the holiday weekend with safety in mind,” said Wyly, founder of the Wyly Law Firm, P.C.

The Houston personal injury law firm has worked throughout Texas, including Harris County, Baytown, Pasadena, Galveston and Beaumont, to help victims of drunk driving accidents and other forms of negligent and reckless driving obtain financial compensation for medical bills, lost wages and pain and suffering.

“We don’t want to see the unofficial end of summer become the end to anyone’s life, health, or even their driving privileges because of drunken driving,” Wyly said.

Wyly pointed out that Texas has one of the highest drunk driving fatality rates in the country, and said his law firm supports local and national participation in the annual "Drink. Drive. Go to Jail" drunken driving enforcement campaign.

The Texas Department of Transportation says that 1,057 people were killed last year in more than 25,000 alcohol-related accidents in the Lone Star State. Wrecks involving alcohol injured more than 16,000 Texans last year.

The "Drink. Drive. Go to Jail” campaign, which runs through the Labor Day weekend this year, is a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration program meant to save lives, prevent injuries, and reduce traffic-related healthcare and economic costs resulting from impaired driving.

Wyly said anyone who has suffered an injury or death of a loved one in an alcohol-related car wreck should consider their legal options, which could include a personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit.

“Getting behind the wheel after drinking is a conscious act for which there is no excuse,” Wyly said. “We support law enforcement personnel who stop those who drive drunk, and the Wyly Law Firm will continue to support those harmed by drunk drivers as they work to rebuild what are often shattered lives.”
