We are very excited to launch the 2RT in the UK. This breakthrough approach retains the therapeutic benefits of laser-based therapy, while eliminating the thermal tissue damage inherent in conventional retinal photocoagulation treatment.
Harlow, Essex (PRWEB UK) 11 September 2015
Haag-Streit UK (HS-UK), the leading manufacturer and distributor of gold-standard optometry and ophthalmic equipment, is pleased to announce the launch of the Ellex 2RT laser in the UK.
The 2RT laser is a specially-designed Q-switched, frequency-doubled Nd:YAG laser, which boasts a wavelength of 532 nm. Officially launched at the recent 2015 ESCRS congress, the laser can be used to slow down the progression of retinal disease, including Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD).
Retinal Rejuvenation Therapy (2RT) represents one of the latest advancements in the treatment of retinal disease. The non-thermal, laser-based therapy applies nanosecond pulses of laser energy through a proprietary beam profile to stimulate a natural, biological healing response in the eye. This can preserve or improve macular appearance and function, thereby slowing down the progression of disease.
The 2RT boasts unique Nanosecond Laser Technology. Unlike conventional retinal laser treatments which use millisecond or microsecond treatment times, the 2RT has an extremely fast pulse duration of 3 nanoseconds, with energy of approximately 200 µJ per pulse.
The laser also features a large 400 µm spot size, with patented beam profile, instead of the traditional top-hat or Gaussian-shaped laser beam and 50 µm spot size commonly used in retinal photocoagulation.
Steve Derham, HS-UK Product Manager for the 2RT, said, “We are very excited to launch the 2RT in the UK. This breakthrough approach retains the therapeutic benefits of laser-based therapy, while eliminating the thermal tissue damage inherent in conventional retinal photocoagulation treatment.”
