Humperdinks Restaurant and Brewery, a local sports restaurant chain that has been in business for 35 years, is excited that Yu Darvish and the Texas Rangers have joined forces to make April 9, 2012, one of the most anticipated opening-week dates in recent baseball history. Many Texas Rangers fans agree—Darvish could be the key to another Rangers World Series appearance.

In the 2004 NPB amateur draft, when Darvish was 18 years old, he was ranked among the best high school pitchers available. However, the first team he played for was a Japanese professional team called the Fighters, which was just what Darvish wanted. He pitched in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and continued to play for the Fighters until this year. The Texas Rangers bid a reported $51.7 million for the rights to negotiate with the star pitcher, and on January 18, 2012, the Rangers signed Darvish to a $60 million contract for six years of his phenomenal pitching skills.

During spring training in Arizona, some people caught what is being called “Yu-mania,” and did not disappoint. He steadily progressed on schedule and the Yu Darvish/Rangers combination is now prepared for the season.

Rangers’ fans can enjoy flame-grilled Kobe burgers, house-made pizza, heavily aged steaks and much more if they make Humperdinks their restaurant of choice on their way to or from The Ballpark in Arlington. There’s even the opportunity to take the Humperdinks Shuttle to the ballpark in Arlington for only $5. The convenient shuttle is available for every game and certain specialty events held at the stadium. If fans can’t make it to the game in person, they can always enjoy Humperdinks’ new game room with a ten-foot HD Super Screen and plenty of seating for all.
