The International Association of Registered Financial Consultants Launches 2012-2013 Collegiate Financial Plan Competition

College students enrolled in Financial Services curriculums across the country are invited to participate in the Financial Plan Competition and produce a comprehensive personal financial plan based on uniform sample data provided to their school.

The IARFC is dedicated to educate, support, and advance the professionalism of the financial advisors who are helping the public to spend, save, invest, insure, and plan for the future.

The IARFC competition is a world-class event that attracts the best and brightest students from the nation; this is an event well worth the time and effort on the part of student teams and their academic advisors.

The International Association of Registered Financial Consultants (IARFC), a non-profit professional association of financial advisors, has launched the Financial Plan Competition for the 2012-2013 school year. The competition requires students or teams of students to construct a comprehensive financial plan for a fictional case study presented in a rough narrative format. The deadline for submissions is January 30, 2013.

A panel of experienced and qualified Registered Financial Consultants will judge the submissions on the following criteria: Correct understanding of the case data and the “soft information”, Understanding of the problems, including any incomplete data, Recommendations made (the logic, priority and suitability, Physical construction and design of the written plan, Supplemental text and illustrations.

Financial Plan Competition Details The judges will first narrow the field of entries to two finalists. These finalists will then make a personal presentation of their plans to their fictional clients in a role-playing exercise that the judges will use to determine the competition winner.

Past winners of the IARFC Financial Plan Competition include Appalachian State University, Faculty Advisor, Ivan C. Roten, MBA, Ph.D., CFP®, and Kansas State University, Faculty Advisor, John E. Grable, MBA, Ph.D., CFP®, RFC®.

Dr. John Grable, now an Endowed Professor at the University of Georgia, stated, “The opportunity to showcase an academic program's students through national competitions is very valuable. The IARFC competition is a world-class event that attracts the best and brightest students from the nation; this is an event well worth the time and effort on the part of student teams and their academic advisors.”

Founded in 1984, the IARFC is a non-profit professional association of financial advisors across the United States and more than 25 other countries. They share the goal of helping their clients wisely spend, save, invest, insure and plan for the future to achieve financial independence and peace of mind.
