‘I Choose’ campaign grows from Yoursphere’s global youth community initiative, challenges kids to stop, think and remember that their choices really matter

"I Choose" Anti-Bullying Campaign

If you’re kind to other people, they will be kind back. To have friends, you must be a friend. To be loved and treated with compassion, you have to treat other people with those qualities. Starting today, that’s what I choose.

Yoursphere Media, Inc., provider of family and youth-oriented social media destinations and privacy practices for brands, nonprofits and corporations, announced today it has launched the “I Choose” Anti-Bullying Campaign. The "I Choose" campaign is a challenge and movement for change. It is about recognizing bullying for what it is: a choice. The campaign challenges youth to stop, think and remember that their choices matter.

Yoursphere Media’s popular kids-only social networking site, Yoursphere.com, is created “by kids, for kids.” It was the Yoursphere youth community who helped drive the “I Choose” Anti-Bullying Campaign. Members provided inspiration for the Campaign’s five powerful words that kids can embrace to help end bullying: friendship, kindness, respect, compassion and love.

"Life really does go by ‘the Golden Rule.’ If you respect other people, they will respect you,” said a 15-year-old Yoursphere member who goes by the name “Just Plain Me” on the site. The teen added: “If you’re kind to other people, they will be kind back. To have friends, you must be a friend. To be loved and treated with compassion, you have to treat other people with those qualities. Starting today, that’s what I choose."

The Foundation and Coalition for Internet Safety Education and Reform, Yoursphere Media’s recently launched education nonprofit, is offering schools an “I Choose” Anti-Bullying Challenge Starter Kit so teachers can incorporate the “I Choose” philosophy into their classrooms. Yoursphere Media also invites other organizations to sign up as supporting partners of the campaign. More information about the “I Choose” Anti Bullying Campaign can be found at WhatDoYouChoose.org.

“We have seen that programs like these can have a tremendous impact in the classroom,” said Mary Kay Hoal, president of Yoursphere Media. “The simple, positive, straightforward approach of ‘I Choose’ makes it easy for all students to absorb the message and apply it to their own circumstances. ‘I Choose’ challenges youth to stop, think and make the right choices, and lets them know it is within their power to make the right choices.”

Youth and their families are invited to participate in the campaign by visiting the “I Choose” website at WhatDoYouChoose.org, where they can share stories, make their choice and get an “I Choose” bracelet. Visitors to the website will also find a compelling video that tackles the subject of bullying, created to spark discussion between youth, educators and parents.
