Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

We are proud to be partnering with Ibmec, one of the top schools of business in Latin America, so that our students have the opportunity to study alongside Brazilian students in classes taught by distinguished Brazilian faculty members.

IES Abroad, a consortium of 200 major U.S. colleges and universities, has announced that Ibmec—a leading school of business, law and international relations–is its first academic partner institution in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. IES Abroad opens its new study abroad program in Rio de Janeiro in Spring 2013 and is already accepting student applications.

One of Latin America's most prestigious business schools, Ibmec offers courses in Business Administration, Economics, International Relations and Law. Centrally located in downtown Rio on the famous Avenida Presidente Wilson, Ibmec was founded in the 1970s as the Brazilian Institute of Capital Markets. Today, Ibmec prepares young Brazilians for leading executive positions in one of the world’s fastest growing economies.

Admission is extremely competitive for Brazilian students. The institution is known for small class sizes (usually fewer than 20 students) and its world-class faculty members have advanced degrees from top institutions. Ibmec offers an interesting group of electives taught in English for students who study in Brazil without prior study of Portuguese. Students with advanced Spanish or Portuguese can also enroll in classes taught in Portuguese.

“We are proud to be partnering with Ibmec, one of the top schools of business in Latin America, so that our students have the opportunity to study alongside Brazilian students in classes taught by distinguished Brazilian faculty members—many of whom are actively involved in Brazilian enterprises,” said Dr. Michael Steinberg, Executive Vice President of Academic Programs at IES Abroad.
Students attending the Spring 2013 semester in Rio will be able to take one course at Ibmec, in combination with IES Abroad courses. Examples of the types of courses that will be available in English include:

  •     International Economics & Finance
  •     Global Issues & Public Policies
  •     Regional Studies - BRICS
  •     Topics on International Trade & Logistics
  •     International Marketing
  •     International Business

Students with Portuguese or advanced Spanish can select from Portuguese-taught courses.
