As the national spirit of Japan, it is a great honor that the Shochu category was included in this year’s Ultimate Spirits Challenge and an even greater honor for Iichiko to be named the best of the Shochu entrants
New York, NY (PRWEB) April 04, 2013
Iichiko, Japan’s best-selling Shochu, is proud to announce that it has been named one of the recipients of the prestigious Chairman’s Trophy for excellence in a spirit category at the world-class 2013 Ultimate Spirits Challenge in New York City.
Led by Ultimate Beverage Challenge Founder and Judging Chairman F. Paul Pacult and Judging Co-Chairman Sean Ludford, a panel of esteemed judges that also included industry luminaries such as David Wondrich, Jennifer Simonetti-Bryan MW and Dale DeGroff awarded the super premium Iichiko Frasco Barley Shochu the highest Shochu score of the Challenge (94 Points and Excellent, Highly Recommended). The award for Iichiko Frasco is the first time that the panel has honored a Japanese white spirit with a Chairman’s Trophy.
The panel of judges noted, “Fantastic grapey aromas followed by ripe plum, ripe apricot and confectionery raspberry form a powerful bouquet on the nose but once in the mouth it takes a more elegant and subtle turn. Subdued flavors of ripe pear and ripe apricot still make themselves seen before a very soft and delicate finish.”
Also performing well at the 2013 Ultimate Spirits Challenge was the premium Iichiko Silhouette Barley Shochu, which rated highly with a score of 88 and Very Good, Strong Recommendation.
“As the national spirit of Japan, it is a great honor that the Shochu category was included in this year’s Ultimate Spirits Challenge and an even greater honor for Iichiko to be named the best of the Shochu entrants,” noted Masahiro Takeda, Vice President of Wine of Japan Import, Iichiko’s US importer. “They are very committed to building Shochu awareness outside of Japan, primarily in the United States, and a prestigious award such as the Chairman’s Trophy further reinforces their position as the leader in quality and production.”
Exquisitely fragrant on the nose, Iichiko Frasco Barley Shochu is deep in flavor and full bodied on the palate. Low in calories and incredibly versatile, this super premium liquor is highly pearled and uses only 100% barley koji that is fermented at low temperatures.
