On Thursday, April 8th, the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) announced its 2010 FAB Awards during the Northland Chapter's 7th Annual Design Awards event at the University of Minnesota McNamara Alumni Center in Minneapolis.

Each year, the IIDA presents FAB Awards to recognize excellence in Interior Design. FAB Awards are awarded to work done by the architecture and design community that is deemed to be 'Fresh, Artistic and Brilliant.' The winning projects were as follows:

Large Commercial:
20 Below Studio - Syngenta Seeds (Grand Award Winner)
Ellerbe Becket - Downtown Office Remodel

Small Commercial:
20 Below Studio - Modern Climate

Sustainable Design & Members Choice:
Perkins + Will - Great River Energy HQ

20 Below Studio - Private Residence

Ryan Companies US, Inc. - Cristo Rey

Perkins + Will - St. Mary's Hospital - The Century Project

Cuningham Group Architecture, P.A. - Mystic Lake Casino Renovation and Remodeling

Shea, Inc. - Loring Kitchen & Bar

Lifetime Achievement Award:
Denise Guerin, PhD, FIDEC, FASID, IIDA - University of Minnesota

Volunteer of the Year Award:
Nick Nelson - Formica

'The Twin Cities are home to a vibrant design community, as the nearly 60 competing projects show,' said Heather Rose-Dunning, Partner at 20 Below Studio -- the 2010 FAB Grand Award Winner.   • 20 Below Studio's design for the Syngenta Seeds Regional Headquarters won in the category of Large Commercial and took home the evening's top prize, the FAB Grand Award. In addition to these awards, the LEED Gold certified Syngenta Seeds project also received a 2009 AIA MN Honor Award and was recently published in Architecture MN.
  • A private residence in St. Paul, designed by 20 Below Studio principal Joseph Hamilton AIA, CID, took home the award for best project in the category of Residential/Housing.
  • The modern and hip, yet comfortable, new home for Modern Climate, a downtown Minneapolis ad agency, won in the category of Small Commercial.
