The NGRAIN Virtual Task Trainer is a cost-effective, reusable and flexible technology platform that can be shared and integrated into training programs across the Department of National Defence both at home and abroad.
Orlando, FL (PRWEB) November 28, 2011
NGRAIN®, the leading provider of interactive 3D simulation software and solutions for maintenance training and support, today announced it has been awarded a series of contracts with the Department of National Defence (DND) to develop Virtual Task Trainer™ (VTT™) solutions for the Canadian Army and the Royal Canadian Air Force. The solutions, based on NGRAIN’s award-winning 3KO® simulation technology, will improve instruction of complex theory of operations and maintenance procedures in addition to practicing procedures and troubleshooting on the CC-138 Twin Otter aircraft, Field Heater, and Light-Armoured Vehicle III Differential.
“NGRAIN solutions are designed to address the constraints facing our military today – extended equipment lifecycles, new equipment entering the field, and the use of text-based training manuals to communicate complex information,” said Gabe Batstone, Chief Executive Officer, NGRAIN. “The NGRAIN Virtual Task Trainer is a cost-effective, reusable and flexible technology platform that can be shared and integrated into training programs across the Department of National Defence both at home and abroad.”
The simulation-based training solutions include:
Royal Canadian Air Force – CC-138 Twin Otter VTT
The CC-138 is undergoing a life extension program which includes upgrading the avionics suite. A comprehensive understanding of the new automated systems and operations is a prerequisite to the safe flying of the aircraft. The NGRAIN VTT will provide students with training on the CC-138 avionics of the aircraft and will integrate with the Air Force Integrated Information Learning Environment (AFIILE), which will enable instructors and students to access the 3D training solutions from any geographic location.
Canadian Army – Field Heater VTT
The Army is acquiring approximately 2,200 new heaters to replace five legacy models. Proper maintenance and operation of the space heaters is critical to ensure that the heaters are fuel efficient, clean burning, and have a maximum in-service duration. NGRAIN was chosen to provide interactive training that will help reduce skill-fade and improve soldiers’ understanding of the internal components, as well as the associated maintenance procedures. The VTT will support schoolhouse training and will be deployed with the equipment to support optimal maintenance and operations of the heater.
Canadian Army – Light Armored Vehicle VTT
The Light-Armored Vehicle (LAV) is a critical piece of equipment for Army operations with a complex mechanical system that is challenging to visualize. To improve training, the Canadian Forces School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (CFSEME) selected NGRAIN to address the training requirements for nine LAV III Differential models, which includes system orientation, procedural training, and diagnostics training. It is the eighth NGRAIN VTT to be used by CFSEME.
“The Department of National Defence continues to recognize the powerful advantage interactive 3D can bring to the classroom and operational training environments,” said Arnold van den Hoeven, Director of Canadian Defence, NGRAIN. “The ability to teach complex information, in a dynamic and compelling way that results in improved knowledge transfer and retention, ultimately helps to keep maintainers safe, keep equipment operational and reduce costs.”
The VTT is a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) software based solution that incorporates instructional design best practices to deliver a customized training package for NGRAIN customers. SCORM conformant, the VTT can be integrated with Learning Management Systems and is deployed on common desktop and laptop computers. The NGRAIN 3KO®, or 3D Knowledge Object™, is the core of NGRAIN training solutions. 3KO simulations embed subject matter expertise in detailed 3D models of a piece of equipment, in a self-contained format. Unlike any other solution available on the market today, the NGRAIN 3KO can be updated using NGRAIN Producer®, and can be embedded in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint documents, as well as PDF documents and HTML pages to further extend its use within the military.
NGRAIN® is the creator of interactive 3D simulation software and solutions that have set the standard for technical training and operational support, providing the most true-to-life, virtual hands-on experience. Offering both a development platform and custom solutions, NGRAIN is focused on solving business problems while delivering value. With NGRAIN, organizations worldwide are revolutionizing how they prepare their people for optimum performance. http://www.ngrain.com
