We have seen from up close the important role that SSD benefits play in the lives of many Chicago and Illinois residents. The need for Congress to resolve the Social Security Disability trust fund’s problems cannot be overstated.
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) September 01, 2012
Chicago Social Security Disability benefits lawyer Lawrence Disparti today said that a Congressional committee’s statement on the 56th anniversary of Social Security Disability (SSD) benefits should be followed with legislation to ensure future benefits for deserving Americans.
Disparti noted that a recent Social Security trustees report projected that the disability program’s trust fund will be depleted by the end of 2016 and called for Congress to act.
“We have seen from up close the important role that SSD benefits play in the lives of many Chicago and Illinois residents,” said Disparti, founder of the Disparti Law Group, a Chicago Social Security claims law firm. “The need for Congress to resolve the Social Security Disability trust fund’s problems cannot be overstated.”
Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) and Social Security Subcommittee Chairman Sam Johnson (R-TX) issued the statement August 1 recognizing the anniversary of President Dwight D. Eisenhower signing the Social Security Amendments Act into law in 1956 and establishing monthly SSD benefits.
Camp and Johnston said in the statement that more than 10.8 million disabled workers and their families rely on benefits they earned through the payroll taxes they paid.
“We must secure the future of SSDI,” the legislators’ statement says. “[The] Subcommittee on Social Security has held a series of hearings looking for possible solutions that both meet the needs of those with disabilities, and also protect the hard-earned taxpayer dollars supporting the program. … [T]his Committee will continue to work with all our colleagues so we can find solutions to strengthen the program for Americans with disabilities.”
The Disparti Law Group helps Illinois residents obtain Social Security Disability (SSD), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Railroad Retirement Board disability (RRB), Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance Traumatic Injury Protection (TSGLI) benefits, and similar government benefits claims.
Disparti said it is important to stress that the SSD fund is actively paying benefits now.
“People who need disability benefits or Supplemental Security Income benefits should move forward with their applications,” the veteran Chicago disability benefits attorney said.
Disparti said his firm will continue to stand up for the rights of disabled workers and work hard to secure the benefits they deserve.
“SSD and SSI funds are available to those who qualify for them,” he said. “If a worker is having trouble obtaining benefits they need, they should contact a lawyer to review their benefits claim and assist them with an appeal.”
