Infolytica Corporation announced today that a new release of MagNet version 7 will be available in mid-spring 2010. This update will enable users to simulate the magnetization of a permanent magnet, expand on MagNet's multicore support and include other new features.
MagNet v7.1 will allow the magnetization process to be simulated; specifically the magnetic field strength inside the permanent magnet component will be determined by the magnetization pattern and source current in the magnetizing coils.
The result will be a permanent magnet for which each point inside will have a different recoil loop depending on the flux density that it has reached during the magnetization process.
The permanent magnet can be then used as a component in an electromagnetic device, such as a motor, for which further simulations can be performed as to study the performance based on the magnetized state that was stored from the previous simulation.
An example is seen in the figures where a work piece is magnetized in a die press and then placed on a surface mounted brushless DC electric machine. The magnetization pattern on the work piece from the die press is shown on the left. The magnet is then mounted on a 4 pole 12 slot machine and the flux density distribution on the stator teeth, back iron and the rotor with zero coil current is seen on the right.

The first release of MagNet v7 introduced powerful multicore solving capabilities, which allows users to take full advantage of their dual, quad or 8-core processors to get even faster results from the market leading electromagnetic field simulation software. Many new multicore features will be added in v7.1. More details on these improvements will be available closer to the projected release of mid-spring 2010.
