The Strategy Group announces the October kickoff of a new forum for chief strategy officers as part of The Innovator's Studio, a collaborative incubator for market-leading health systems seeking to create competitive advantage through value innovation.

The Innovator's Studio for Chief Strategy Officers is designed to assist hospital and health system executives seeking to understand the evolution and emergence of markets in the health industry, and the evolving role of the chief strategy officer in healthcare enterprises.

In this unique setting, The Innovator's Studio participants will advance the discipline and practice of strategy leadership in healthcare. Participants will explore the depth and breadth of the role, examine the strategy function in other industries and discuss how to develop and position the role of chief strategy officer to bring even greater value to their health care organizations. Given the current economic downturn, it is even more critical for chief strategy officers in healthcare to understand the implications of reform on strategy development.

From research and in interviews with other chief strategy officers across the country, The Strategy Group learned that strategy executives have the opportunity to ask questions others executives in the organization can't or won't; they resolve strategic issues that service line leaders don't have time for; they provide clarity and simplicity to complex issues, and they keep senior teams focused so that strategic initiatives and business opportunities don't get lost.

"They see their future role as thought leaders," said Karen Corrigan, President of The Strategy Group and chief catalyst for the group. "They believe they drive and support organizational transformation; serve as advocates for the organization's long-term health; are catalysts for new strategic opportunities; and foster an environment for more spontaneous strategy creation.

In this multi-client setting, participants from non-competing health systems will experience innovative thinking, breakthrough concepts and be challenged by out-of-industry experts to look at strategy development through a different lens. They will come away with usable briefs, concepts and tools to make them a more effective strategist and key advisor who compliment the skills of the CEO.
Using a structured framework within a highly-creative, col¬laborative environment, clients will:

  •     Define innovative market opportunities to drive revenue growth
  •     Explore the role of chief strategy officer as "influential advisor" to the health system
  •     Address strategic alignment issues
  •     Create sustainable physician alignment and understand its impact on brand
  •     Pioneer new care delivery models
  •     Create new products and ventures
  •     Examine creative employer and other strategic growth opportunities
  •     Interact with and learn from some of the country's top in and out-of-industry chief strategists

"More than a think tank and much different than a conference or seminar, The Innovator's Studio provides clients with a unique experience in which leading edge strategies and innovations are explored in-depth," Corrigan said. "The structured process, creative environment, collaborative culture, tools and action frameworks accelerate adoption of future-ready practices. In other forums, we've engaged executives from major companies that include Microsoft, Best Buy, Starbucks, Unilever, CA, The Mayo Clinic and others to advance innovation and breakthrough ideas."
