The San Francisco Design Center, an interior design showroom that provides fine home furnishings, fabrics, and everything design and art related, is announcing a Design Resource Day on May 9, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., as well as The Design Excellence Awards ceremony from noon until 1:30 p.m.

The Northern California Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and The Luxury Marketing Council of San Francisco are hosting the combined events at the SFDC Galleria.

“Hundreds of interior designers and more than 50 design-related businesses from Northern California will be gathering for Design Resource Day and the Design Excellence Awards!” Rhonda Hirata of San Francisco Design Center said. “The competition, which is open to ASID members, student members and industry partners, honors excellence in residential, commercial and product design.”

The theme for this year’s event is the America's Cup and how it is altering the design of the San Francisco waterfront. Stephen Barclay, Interim CEO of the America's Cup Event Authority, will give an overview of the changes now underway for the 2013 race. HGTV and Bravo producer Avelino Pombo, and designer Kenneth Wingard of “Home Made Simple” on the Oprah Winfrey Network will also speak.

Design Resource Day, a free event open to the public, brings together designers and suppliers for informative face-to-face meetings and gives suppliers an opportunity to showcase their latest products and services. Attendees may tour the booths to learn what's new in the interior design marketplace and expand their resource base.

Tickets for the Design Excellence Awards luncheon and speakers are $40. For reservations, contact the ASID Chapter Office at 415-626-2743.
