San Francisco, CA (Vocus/PRWEB) January 21, 2011

Jeff and Tray Schlarb, owners of Green Couch (http://www.greencouch.com), a San Francisco interior design company, announced today that they have broken ground on a complete renovation of a single-family home in Pacific Heights. The project is prompted by Jeff and Tray’s intrinsic understanding of San Francisco home remodeling and Bay Area lifestyles gained through their combined years of interior design. Often finding themselves confined by the architectural lines presented in completed client homes, they are seeking this opportunity to build from the ground up.

“We are capturing an opportunity to translate our passion for designing and decorating finished homes into one that we are making every design decision from rough framing and floor plans through to finished materials and decor” said Jeff. "There is a specific artistry about taking an older home down to the studs and sculpting a new lifestyle to be enjoyed for years to come."

The move to embark on construction of the five-bedroom home on Washington Street is an extension of Green Couch's interior design work and capabilities. This is the fifth renovation of similar scope for the Green Couch team. They will draw upon proven relationships with builders, artists and galleries, architects and furniture designers while renovating the home, which was originally built in the 1950’s. Main themes include creating an open floor plan that honors and maintains articulate architectural features, maximizing natural light and encouraging the relationship from room to room, and a connection of the rooms to the outdoors. Furnishing the home with exclusive Green Couch flair will be of specific interest to potential buyers seeking a true “turn-key” experience.

"So many designers and architects build homes with a floor plan that is simply 'open', resulting in less interest and intimacy," said Jeff. "This residence will have an amazing entertaining space and a smart floor plan for families to enjoy every bit of the home and garden."

Embarking on this project gives the San Francisco interior decorators the chance to unearth the history of the home and to sculpt a new space that emulates the modern California lifestyle, while layering in Jeff and Tray’s individual influences. As convenience is a California ideal, the team decided that living in the home should be smooth and effortless. Relying on personal and cultural experiences, they decided to install two laundry areas, one in the scullery on the main floor and one on the top floor with the four bedrooms. Adding a “scullery”, or large butler’s pantry is often seen in Tray’s native South Africa and will help minimize the daily duties associated with housekeeping.

The smart floor plan will include generous staircases and widened entryways. As the home was originally built around a central sunroom, small hallways in a square format provided limited entertaining options. The team plans to open walls and create a great room with a sweeping kitchen and living space replete with an outdoor deck overlooking the backyard. The third and fourth floor will showcase four spacious bedrooms with abundant closet space. The exterior’s craftsman-style shingles will be replaced with modern stucco and custom bronze windows.

While the second level hosts the principle rooms, such as a formal living room, formal dining room and great room, the ground level has an entertaining room opening to the large garden complete with small kitchen, guest bedroom and a specialty wine closet. On the third level and top floor all four bedrooms are designed to be spacious with abundant closet space.
