The International Career Institute (ICI), an independent, private distance learning college, has launched the Moodle e-learning platform.

Moodle (abbreviation for Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment) is an open source learning management software platform initially developed by Martin Dougiamas to help educators create collaborative learning content and facilities through which teachers can interact with students. As of early 2012, the Moodle learning platform had a global user base of over 72,000 registered learning sites, serving over 33 million students across the globe.

The Moodle learning platform is used by some of the leading schools and universities throughout the world including the Australian National University, Central Queensland University, University of Canberra, University of Southern Queensland, La Trobe University, University of New England, University of California, University of Georgia, University of Essex and many other public and private institutions.

In early 2011, ICI’s Academic Technology Committee was tasked by the Director of Student Services to evaluate alternative solutions that would facilitate a more intuitive and feature-rich learning system to further develop the International Career Institute's distance learning courses.

“Our faculty was the main reason behind evaluating new learning management systems,” says David Alexander, Director of Student Services. “There was a growing demand for a scalable learning platform that would provide the functionality demanded by our faculty and increasing numbers of students".

After conducting feature comparisons across the various learning management systems available, the Moodle platform was chosen above the rest. In the coming months, the college will be migrating learning content for its students and faculty.
