In response to an article published on Hotel News Now detailing the importance of digital marketing, Internet marketing company fishbat says a good digital marketing strategy is necessary for major hotel chains.

On June 1, Internet marketing company fishbat discusses the value of online marketing in the hotel and hospitability industry after a Hotel News Now article revealed that many companies have not kept up with the increase in digital marketing influence.

According to the Hotel News Now article, more consumers are starting to use social media and the Internet to explore hotels and book rooms through mobile apps. At the EyeForTravel’s Distribution Summit in Europe, Best Western Hotels GB CEO Richard Lewis agreed that potential customers are using social media, pictures, and interactive features when looking for a place to stay.

However, the article says many hotel websites are lacking in social media engagement, especially on Facebook. Others don’t have booking apps on mobile devices, which are becoming increasingly important in making same day reservations.

Maas says people have the possibility to use photos and videos to explore rooms and read reviews from past customers online. Websites that don’t offer these features could lose business to competitors that do. He urges hotel chains to expand their digital media strategy and start promoting their services on social media.

“Don’t underestimate the power of social media,” Maas says. “Investing in online features will increase convince for customers and that helps lead to repeat business, a key factor in most industries, but particularly the hospitality industry. Social media has also become a fast and easy way to deal with customer service issues. For a hotel, customer service is at the utmost importance.”
