Seattle, WA (PRWEB) July 25, 2012

IOActive, Inc., a global leader in information security services and research, today announced the acquisition of BlockWatch Technologies and the appointment of Shane Macaulay as Director of Cloud Security Services. BlockWatch is a high-performance, reliable, and extensible solution for automating forensic, incident response, and cloud security monitoring.

For years, the industry’s ability to locate Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) backdoors was limited by the tools available, most derived from reverse engineering artifacts found during incident response activities. These limitations inspired the creation of BlockWatch, a cloud security monitoring system that helps ensure systems stay clean of malware, worms, or any form of Trojan attack. By directly reading memory from a cloud/VM, BlockWatch inspects the running state of a server from outside the cloud environment, ultimately enabling confidence in system security.

As founding members of the Cloud Security Alliance and presenters of hypervisor security research at Black Hat 2010, IOActive has positioned itself at the forefront of the cloud movement. This acquisition highlights IOActive’s ongoing commitment to enabling enterprises with the most benefits possible from their cloud environments. BlockWatch will initially be integrated with IOActive’s Incident Response service offerings, but development will continue toward a full release later this year.

“Having partnered with IOActive for several years now, this acquisition was the natural next step toward bringing BlockWatch to a broader market. They have always shown a commitment to improving the overall security landscape and, with BlockWatch, my goal was total assurance of all code running in a cloud,” said Shane Macaulay, Director of Cloud Security Services at IOActive and creator of BlockWatch.

“More than ever our clients seek our support around securing their cloud environments. A critical step to achieving that goal is being confident in their ability to respond quickly and effectively in the event of a breach,” said Jennifer Steffens, Chief Executive Officer at IOActive. “The insights provided by BlockWatch make huge strides toward fulfilling this goal and we’re excited to bring that value to our clients.”

Shane Macaulay will be available to discuss BlockWatch and the acquisition in IOActive’s IOAsis suite at Caesars Palace. For more information, visit http://info.ioactive.com/bh-2012.html
