When a migration from an existing product is imminent, IT looks for solutions with minimal development and service costs and a rapid path to ROI. Rhapsody provides organizations with the opportunity to streamline architecture and expand the feature-set to mitigate the migration impacts and allow for future integration needs
Santa Monica, California (PRWEB) June 30, 2009
Iowa Health System, the state's first and largest integrated health system, has selected Orion Health Rhapsody™ Integration Engine to replace its current solution; to ensure ongoing communication between the organization's several hundred different/disparate systems. Rhapsody will provide Iowa Health System the most up to date platform to migrate, manage and streamline message exchange from legacy systems and make patient information accessible to physicians from the facility's electronic medical record (EMR) solution.
Iowa Health System includes 14 hospitals in seven large Iowa communities, a system of hospitals in 14 rural communities and group practices of physicians and clinics in 71 communities. Through its health care providers, Iowa Health System cares for nearly one of every three patients in Iowa.
Joy M. Grosser, Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Iowa Health System, said the organization decided to update its technology as its current integration engine, Sun Microsystem®'s eGate software, was reaching the end of its life.
"The physician's ability to access data they need to provide our patients with the best care possible is our top priority. Rather than forcing them onto a single-vendor solution, we follow a core vendor solution where possible and a best of breed approach for specialized systems that includes a large number of systems from different vendors. To provide a complete clinical record, these systems must be able to talk to each, which can't happen without an integration engine," Ms. Grosser said.
She estimates the conversion to Rhapsody from eGate will take around half the time originally planned. Early testing demonstrated that tasks previously taking two weeks to complete, can now be completed in a few hours, creating improvements in costs and resource allocation. A new architecture is being implemented and a virtualized environment will further increase efficiencies. Rhapsody's small footprint is an optimal solution to run in virtualized or cloud computing environments.
Orion Health President of North America and EMEA Paul Viskovich says other interface engines may be flexible and powerful but are not always easy to use. Rhapsody has the unique ability to be both powerful and easy to use. Rhapsody allows users to build interfaces that might be beyond their expertise if they were using a different product. It also makes advanced users much more productive, because they can build interfaces more quickly with Rhapsody's graphical tools than they can by writing, compiling, and deploying code.
"When a migration from an existing product is imminent, IT looks for solutions with minimal development and service costs and a rapid path to ROI. Rhapsody provides organizations with the opportunity to streamline architecture and expand the feature-set to mitigate the migration impacts and allow for future integration needs," Mr. Viskovich concludes.
Orion Health solutions use standards-based technology to integrate data within a facility and external partners without incurring costly rip and replace approaches. Currently the company helps facilities and healthcare communities that connect 35 million patients with tens of thousands of active users.
