The iPhone Application That Can Change Your Life

Scientific studies have convincingly demonstrated the benefits of mindfulness meditation in the reduction of stress and the promotion of happiness and overall well-being. Today, Mental Workout and Stephan Bodian, the author of Meditation For Dummies®, announce their partnership in a project that will change people's lives - using the iPhone.

New York, NY (PRWEB) April 29, 2009 -- Mental Workout, a company specializing in scientifically based guided meditations and therapeutic programs, today announced the release of its first iPhone application, Mindfulness Meditation, offering a mindfulness-based stress reduction package that features four different mindfulness meditations and one relaxation exercise, all authored and spoken by Stephan Bodian.

"Most of us are feeling more stress now than ever. We have more responsibilities, an increased workload, and greater uncertainties as we look to the future. Our mission here is to provide the most effective stress-reduction tool - meditation - to the masses, designed in a way that makes it easily accessible, easy to use, and time sensitive," says Mickey Beyer-Clausen, founder of Mental Workout.

Increased stress affects our health at every level. Some people find themselves to be more irritable, anxious, tired, or sad. Some are unable to sleep, some eat too much or too little, some experience physical symptoms like high blood pressure or headaches. Stress can even weaken our immune systems, making it harder to fight off disease. Our relationships may suffer, and we may fail to function effectively at work.

A few stress facts:

  • 80% of workers feel stress on the job - and nearly half say they need help in learning how to manage stress ("Attitudes In The American Workplace V" Gallup Poll)
  • 70% of all illness, both physical and mental, is linked to stress (U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services)
  • According to a survey of 800,000 workers in over 300 companies, the number of employees calling in sick because of stress tripled from 1996 to 2000 (The American Institute of Stress)
"I see this as a wonderful opportunity to help people reduce their stress and discover greater happiness and peace of mind, which has been my primary motivation since I began teaching meditation more than 30 years ago," said Stephan Bodian. "By teaming up with Mental Workout, we can now make effective meditations available to everyone and educate people about meditation's many health benefits."
