a COLA adjustment may in fact be imminent, but it just may not be enough and we need to be able to help our clients figure that out

ISMAmerica, an independent organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the American Dream, has completed their review of the possible COLA for Social Security in 2012. The company has conducted the review in an effort to gather as much information as possible in order to determine the effect on their clients who are either current or soon to be recipients of the benefits.

“The cost of living adjustment of 3.5% that is likely to come in 2012 is welcomed news for those who receive Social Security, but they shouldn’t feel too relieved. The adjustment is only going to be the first in three years and when looking at how prices on many everyday goods have increased in the same time, it is not in the best interest of anyone to expect this modest adjustment to be more than enough,” says Tim Robley, National Marketing Director of ISM America.

Citing data from a Bloomberg.com article, the company says that the increase is not even a sure thing yet. Data from the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for this month and last month will have to be calculated and reviewed before a final call is made, but the company also stated that all signs are pointing to a likely adjustment.

When asked why the possible adjustment mattered, Tim replied, “It is our mission to help working Americans reach their financial goals. Many will rely at least in part on Social Security, but we aim to stay up to date with all aspects of the program as we do not feel that it will be able to adequately sustain many who wish to maintain their current standard of living once they reach retirement. So, an adjustment may in fact be imminent, but it just may not be enough and we need to be able to help our clients figure that out.”
