... I like to push boundaries and improve things. I like to learn and I like to share what I know.

Keynote speaker Jack Daniel will be bringing his insight from 20 years in the IT industry to Hacker Halted when he presents “Hackers: Responsibility and Reality.” The self-described “reluctant CISSP” and Microsoft MVP for Enterprise Security will explore the questions that Hackers must ask themselves. First up: “Is helping others a responsibility?” This issue will inevitably lead to larger inquiries about the inherent obligations of being a hacker, and what exactly these obligations are.

Using logical extremes, Mr. Daniel will answer these questions and investigate what, if any, burdens the hacker ethic imposes upon those in the field. By looking at the example of famous Hackers such as Johnny Long, Anonymous, and Lulzsec, Hacker Halted attendees will examine the differences between the Hackers who claim to do good and those who would disagree. “If we have no obligations to our communities or society at large, is the Hacker Ethic sustainable, or does it matter either way?” asks Mr. Daniel. In addition to tackling the question of the responsibilities of a Hacker, the issue of who judges a Hacker’s performance will also be investigated.

A technology community activist, Jack Daniel supports several information security and technology organizations. “I consider myself a hacker; I like to push boundaries and improve things. I like to learn and I like to share what I know,” said Mr. Daniel, “Many people have helped me learn and I hope that I’ve helped others.” Guests are invited to join this conversation and delve into the topic of hacker responsibility at the Conference.

Mr. Daniels is just one of seven industry-experts slotted to speak as keynotes at Hacker Halted USA 2012. More information about the keynotes and a schedule of events can be found at
