Last year they were primarily relegated to background roles - storage for preserved body parts kept as mementos by a deranged serial killer, for example - but now they seem to be breaking through into featured roles.

The January 22nd episode of CSI featured The Jar Store's 16 oz mason jars as a detonator in one of the program's signature crime reconstruction scenes. An autopsy revealed a glass "M" inside the burnt corpse of a murdered man, which led to a detailed investigation of the use of a mason jar to trigger a large explosion in a Vegas home.
During the episode, CSI lab technicians discover that The Jar Store's mason has become the container of choice for an arsonist-murderer trying to cover his tracks. By using a common canning jar to create a time-delayed trigger, he was able to construct a homemade bomb that was difficult to trace. CSI investigators were able to replicate what the arsonist did by experimenting with several mason jars.
Although not the best showcase for industrial grade glass, some Jar Store fans found irresistible comedy in the company's Hollywood debut: "I could totally see the high quality and fabulous value in that explosion," says Mike Shaw, of PRNewswire-Asia. "Glass jars are really making a push in the televised serial crime drama this year," notes Bryan Maleszyk, a Boston-based media consultant and pop culture analyst. "Last year they were primarily relegated to background roles - storage for preserved body parts kept as mementos by a deranged serial killer, for example - but now they seem to be breaking through into featured roles." Not to be outdone, Paula Capaldo, The Jar Store's national sales director, noted that she thought "our explosive jars" made us look "really appealing and safe for potential customers who want jars that withstand high temperatures."
