Literacy issues plague our inner-city schools, which is why we opened the Reading Room
Fort Lauderdale, FL (Vocus/PRWEB) February 21, 2011
Steven Douglas Associates, one of the nation’s leading boutique search and project-based professional services firms, has partnered with NFL All-Pro, Jason Taylor, and his Jason Taylor Foundation to launch the second annual “Read to Succeed” initiative, it was announced today. The initiative serves as a call-to-action for South Florida businesses and community members to raise funds to support the Jason Taylor Reading Room, the football star’s after school program located in Miramar, Fla.
Now in its fourth year, the Jason Taylor Reading Room is a multi-faceted, after-school program designed to offer a holistic approach to addressing the problem of illiteracy among inner-city youth. Middle school and high school students participate in the program free of charge, four days per week for two hours per day, assisted by certified teachers and focusing on reading comprehension strategies, writing skills, vocabulary building, phonics instruction, oral reading, etc.
“The work that Jason and Katina Taylor are doing for the children of South Florida is phenomenal and we at Steven Douglas Associates are proud to support their efforts, specifically in the area of literacy,” said Steve Sadaka, Chairman & CEO of Steven Douglas Associates. “The Taylor’s are providing so many kids with services needed to help them perform on an academic level commensurate with their grade level, and those services require funding. This initiative was created to provide that funding.”
Sadaka has assembled a dedicated team of committee members determined to serve as ambassadors for the after-school program. The committee is seeking generous donors willing to make $1,000 contributions, the cost for one child to participate in the Reading Room throughout an entire school year. In addition to underwriting a deserving student’s participation in the program for a year, each $1,000 donor will have the opportunity to attend two exclusive VIP events hosted by Taylor. Last year, the initiative raised more than $100,000.
“Literacy issues plague our inner-city schools, which is why we opened the Reading Room,” said Taylor. “To have the support of Steven Douglas Associates and the entire committee is so meaningful, not just to my wife and I, but most importantly to the kids who will benefit from the program.”
