Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center in Janesville was recently granted with advanced certification as a Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission. Mercy is the first and only hospital in the area to receive this level of certification.
Hospitals that receive certification as a Primary Stroke Center have proved their dedication to fostering better outcomes for stroke patients. In July, Mercy underwent a rigorous on-site review where experts reviewed Mercy's compliance with the requirements for The Joint Commission's disease-specific care program as well as primary stroke center requirements, such as collecting core measure data and using it for performance improvement activities.
"We are thoroughly committed to providing our patients the highest quality stroke care centered on current scientific research to ensure continued improvement in treatment," says Dr. Sany Khabbaz, neurologist and stroke specialist. "This gives us the opportunity to highlight the exceptional stroke care we give our patients on a daily basis, and help us improve care overall for our community."
"We are extremely proud of achieving this level of certification," says Javon Bea, President and CEO of Mercy Health System. "It has been a rigorous process and our team has been working hard to meet this elite mark of excellence. This is yet another example of how we continue to raise the bar for the health and well being of our community."
Certification is only available to stroke programs in Joint Commission-accredited acute care hospitals. For more information about Mercy's new stroke center certification or Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center, visit mercyhealthsystem.org/stroke.
