For 23 years, Labrador retrievers have been voted the number one most popular dog breed in the United States, reports The American Kennel Club (AKC). This winning streak is currently the longest reign at the top of the AKC’s list, illustrating America’s longstanding love for this family-friendly dog breed.

Author Jay is no stranger to Labrador retrievers and their popularity. He’s been raising, training and honing these dogs since 1967. His new book, “Is Life Worth Living Without Labs?” (published by Lulu), shares the touching story of two of his most memorable dogs for all fans of the breed to enjoy.

When Jazz Whacker, a rescued Labrador, comes to live with Jay and his dog Francesca, Jazz is nervous and unsure about his new home. Francesca takes it upon herself to mentor the new dog, and with persistence and a little love, Jazz becomes a good hunter and solid companion.
