JDA® Rail Price Manager enables East Coast Main Line to increase annual sales by more than $7 million by accurately forecasting demand and managing prices in real time

JDA® Software Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: JDAS) announced today that one of the UK’s leading rail companies, East Coast Main Line Company Limited, is boosting revenue by driving improved pricing through the use of JDA® Rail Price Manager. Owned by Directly Operated Railways Limited, East Coast Main Line runs high-speed passenger services, carrying more than 18 million people annually between London and major cities in northern England and Scotland.

East Coast Main Line has increased its annual sales by more than $7 million by using JDA Rail Price Manager to accurately forecast demand by modeling true customer price sensitivity and managing prices to better meet customer demand, while maximizing revenue potential. The company has improved its demand forecast accuracy by 17 percent compared to its previous system.

“What JDA’s solution allows us to do is achieve greater profits,” said Suzanne Donnelly, head of revenue at East Coast Main Line. “With three-quarters of passengers booking in advance, we’re able to analyze demand data, as well as monitor and understand our customers’ behavior to accurately price our seats and encourage passengers to travel on less high-demand services. From a customer relationship point of view, gathering more insight into consumer needs enables us to provide a better overall customer experience, which translates into improved revenue.”

According to Donnelly, East Coast is seeing a significant uptick in advance-purchase tickets, which account for over $358 million of its $785 million in annual revenue.

“We have delivered a 3 percent increase in passenger numbers in the past year and we are planning for growth,” Donnelly added. “JDA Rail Price Manager has helped East Coast Main Line deliver against our revenue targets, and we look forward to continuing success.”

“In today’s volatile economy, travel and transportation companies need to balance their own capacity with consumer demand at an extremely detailed level in order to maximize both revenue and profitability,” said Andy Archer, regional vice president, pricing and revenue management group, JDA Software. “By implementing JDA’s innovative Price Sensitive Revenue Management solutions, leading travel companies such as East Coast Main Line benefit from combining historical data with forecasts that are more representative of actual bookings by taking price sensitivity into account. Not only can they set accurate prices based on available inventory, but they are also better equipped to respond to market fluctuations.”
