JD Match and Ark Group Present Conference On Flawed Law Student Recruiting System; Experts Convene to Identify Solutions

In a day conference Jan. 24, 2012 in New York, JD Match, the first-ever online recruiting service for law students, and Ark Group identify solutions for critical hiring issues facing law firm and corporate legal recruiters and law students.

"The Great Recession caused the legal industry to shed over 60,000 lawyers, and newly minted lawyers suffered deferments and rescinded offers," said Bruce MacEwen, president, JD Match.

JD Match, the first-ever online recruiting service designed to address the flawed law student hiring process and Ark Group USA, producer of high-end legal conferences, announced today a groundbreaking conference to explore critical industry issues facing law firm and corporate legal recruiters and recent law school graduates.

    “Since 2007, the Great Recession reduced growth in demand for legal services and caused the legal industry to shed over 60,000 lawyers,” said Bruce MacEwen, President of JD Match. “This quickly impacted newly minted lawyers, with the graduating classes of 2009 and 2010 suffering deferments and rescinded offers. Worse, since 2007, over 160,000 new law school graduates have flooded an already saturated work force. The situation the industry faces is dire, and something must be done.”

    This day-long conference, titled “The Brave New World of Entry Level Recruiting” takes place January 24, 2012 at the AMA Executive Conference Center in New York City’s Times Square.

    Those on the front lines from employers, both firm- and corporate-side, law schools, law students and legal journalists will provide a 360° perspective on a hiring landscape that has never before been so competitive – for employers, students and schools, alike. Jim Leipold, Executive Director of The National Association for Legal Career Professionals (NALP) is keynote presenter.    

    Employers on the faculty are represented by K&L Gates; Weil, Gotschal & Manges; Hunton & Williams; Waller Lansden and the Hewlett-Packard Corporation. Participating law schools include Brooklyn, Pace and Hofstra. MacEwen of JD Match is conference moderator.
