Huawei is getting ready to launch their next smartphone called Ascend P6. They are trying to build anticipation the same way Samsung did with their Galaxy S4 according to the BBC, June 17.
Tech analyst Jeff Kagan offers comment on this story.
“Huawei is ready to launch their Ascend P6 smartphone. Seeing the success Samsung had with the over-the-top launch of their Galaxy S4, Huawei is trying to create some sizzle in their own marketing. Word is they are preparing to launch their new smartphone with the same kind of event. Will it work?”, asks Principal analyst Jeff Kagan.
Samsung held their event at Carnegie Hall in NYC. Huawei is launching their Ascent P6 at London’s Roundhouse, which is a well-known and historic performing arts center.
“Some wireless handset makers are doing very strong business, while others are struggling for market share. The Apple iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S4 using Google Android seem to be the superpowers in this space. Others are trying to carve out their niche. Huawei must do this in mature and younger markets as well,” says analyst Jeff Kagan.
“It will be harder in mature smartphone markets like the USA. It will be easier in newer smartphone markets around the world. Huawei is one of the companies that build cutting edge devices, but have been struggling for a variety of reasons to date. The opportunity is very real, but very different in each market,” says analyst Kagan.
“At this point, wireless is growing beyond simply tech or communications, and is becoming more of a fashion statement of sorts. Becoming successful in this space means creating a special kind of brand and relationship with the market. Will Huawei be able to accomplish this? We’ll see,” says Kagan.
