T-Mobile sold 500,000 Apple iPhone 5 devices in the first month according to this story from Wireless Week on 5/8/13.
Principal analyst Jeff Kagan comments on this story.
“This was a very rapid start out of the gates for T-Mobile when it started selling the iPhone a few weeks ago. The next question is can they keep this up?” asks Tech analyst Jeff Kagan.
“What makes this more impressive is these first quarter sales actually occurred during the initial one month period. T Mobile introduced the iPhone on April 12. T-Mobile is the fourth largest carrier in the US market, but has been lagging far behind AT&T Mobility and Verizon Wireless during the last decade,” says Jeff Kagan.
“Is T-Mobile on the fast track to success? It’s possible with all the changes they have been going through recently. They have a new CEO John Legere. They just acquired MetroPCS. They are trying to reinvent the way the wireless industry charges for service with Simple Choice. Not to mention they are now selling the Apple iPhone 5 at a healthy pace. Things seem to be stacking up in the right direction for T Mobile,” says Jeff Kagan.
“Not everything is looking strong for T Mobile right now. Total revenues fell. They must turn the ship around. However they are taking real, meaningful steps in that process. So we’ll just have to keep our eyes on T Mobile going forward and see what happens next,” says Jeff Kagan.
