Prince Henry of Wales (a.k.a. Prince Harry) will play in The Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup, at the Greenwich Polo Club, Greenwich, Connecticut, United States today, Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at 3:00.
This is the first time the Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup will be played in the United States and the third year Royal Salute will partner with Sentebale, the charity founded in 2006 by Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso in memory of their mothers. Sentebale means ‘forget-me-not’ in Sesotho, the language spoken in Lesotho and the charity works with local grassroots organizations to help some of Lesotho’s most vulnerable children get the support they need to lead healthy and productive lives.
“Polo matches are fun and a great outdoor activity for families and people of all ages.” said Donna Jones, senior design assistant at Crooked Brook where they specialize in custom polo shirts. “One of our most popular promotional apparel items is promotional polo shirts because they make great corporate gifts and are an excellent way to build brand recognition and promote a business.”
Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso launched the annual polo event to raise funds and awareness for Sentebale and are delighted to announce that Royal Salute will again be the title sponsor for the event; St. Regis also returns as a sponsor and other event sponsors include: Garrard, Jaguar Land Rover.
“Sentebale’s annual polo fundraising event has gone from strength to strength over the years.” Cathy Ferrier, CEO, Sentebale said “We are delighted to be working with our title sponsor Royal Salute once again and are most grateful to Peter Brant for hosting us at his Greenwich Polo Club. We hope to raise even more money this year from the event enabling us to help many more children.”
Christian Porta, Chairman and CEO, Chivas Brothers said "Royal Salute is honored to be partnering with Sentebale for the third year, after two fantastic events in the UK and Brazil. As a leading international polo partner, we are proud to include the Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup in our calendar of events and look forward to the continuation of this relationship in years to come.”
About Prince Harry
Prince Henry of Wales (Henry Charles Albert David, born 15 September 1984), commonly known as Prince Harry, is the younger son of Charles, Prince of Wales, and Diana, Princess of Wales. He is the fourth grandchild of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Therefore, he stands third in the line of succession to the thrones of sixteen independent sovereign states known as the Commonwealth realms, and to the governorship of the Church of England, preceded by his father and by his elder brother, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge.
Polo (Persian: چوگان, Chōwgān), is a team sport played on horseback in which the objective is to score goals against an opposing team. Sometimes called "The Sport of Kings", it was started by Persians, and was popular in Iran until 1979, after which its popularity there declined sharply due to the Iranian Revolution. Players score by driving a small white plastic or wooden ball into the opposing team's goal using a long-handled mallet.
In the sport of polo, polo shirts are called polo jerseys. Polo shirts are also called "polos" or tennis shirts and they became so popular on golf courses, people started calling them golf shirts. Although the words "polo shirt" and "golf shirt" are used interchangeably, the term "polo shirt" is more popular.
More casual than button-front shirts and dressier than t-shirts, embroidered polo shirts are part of the uniform for many businesses. Polo shirts embroidered with a company logo given as gifts or giveaways are called promotional polo shirts and are great way to build brand awareness.
