JerusalemOnlineU.com, a leader in online edutainment, announced today that Amy Holtz has been appointed President. As President of JerusalemOnlineU.com, Holtz plans to develop new initiatives that will expand the organization’s reach to reconnect college students and young adults to Israel and their heritage.
“There are 300,000 Jewish students on college campuses in the United States and Canada, and two-thirds of them do not consider a connection to Judaism or Israel important,” Holtz said. “JerusalemOnlineU.com has the ability to reach tens of thousands of students’ worldwide and to educate them about Israel, and enhance their Jewish identity. Our classes are taught through film so they are very entertaining. We also use leading educators such as professor Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar, Sir Martin Gilbert, Professor Alan Dershowitz, Professor Bernard Lewis and Ambassador Dore Gold.” More than 3,000 students, on over 300 college campuses, have already been engaged in 35,000 hours of Jewish and Israel education through JerusalemOnlineU.com.
Holtz’s vision for the future at JerusalemOnlineU.com includes expanding into the high school, young professional and adult learning markets. “We are developing a course on Israel for high school students in partnership with Jewish National Fund, The David Project and Gratz Community Hebrew High School. Testing will begin in the fall, and we plan to start rolling it out in January. We will also continue to develop strategic partnerships with organizations who want to use our classes in their programs.”
JerusalemOnlineU.com currently offers three courses: (1) Israel Inside/Out--a course on the history, politics and sociology of Israel taught by leading Middle East experts, including Sir Martin Gilbert, Professor Alan Dershowitz, Professor Bernard Lewis and Ambassador Dore Gold; (2) Judaism 101--an exploration of several religious, spiritual and historical perspectives on Judaism; and (3) Positive Psychology and Judaism--a course taught by Ivy League Professor Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar that combines ground-breaking discoveries in the growing filed of Positive Psychology with ancient Jewish wisdom. What makes JerusalemOnlineU.com different is that all of its courses are taught by leading educators, and it uses film and other visual tools throughout every lesson.
“The combination of Holtz’s business and law expertise and her infectious enthusiasm to reconnect Jews to their heritage will be a driving force for everyone at JerusalemOnlineU.com,” according to Rabbi Dr. Eric Lankin, Chief of Institutional Advancement and Education for the Jewish National Fund, and a member of the Advisory Board at JerusalemOnlineU.com. “We are excited to leverage Holtz’s experience to help shape the direction of the organization.”
Prior to joining JerusalemOnlineU.com, Holtz owned and operated a chain of 25 franchised Party City stores. She also served as a lawyer at Blank, Rome in Philadelphia, Pa., and Arent, Fox in Washington, D.C.
