Author & Pastor Kyle Idleman calls readers to declare they are ‘Not a Fan’
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) April 28, 2011
Pastor and author Kyle Idleman pierces the fan culture that has permeated Christianity and declares that he is ‘Not a Fan’ of Jesus in his debut book releasing May 2011. The book responds to the growing emphasis on celebrity that makes being a fan incredibly easy. According to Idleman, it isn’t enough to be an admirer of Jesus. Jesus isn’t looking for fans, he wants completely committed followers.
A revealing original survey exposes new statistics about religion in America. Remarkably, 75 percent of Americans surveyed said they are fans of Jesus, but less than half said they are completely committed followers. While the percentages are significantly higher with Christians, remarkably half of the Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists surveyed said they are fans of Jesus.
This thought-provoking book is designed to awaken apathetic and cultural Christians and motivate them to go on a journey of soul-searching to consider the demands and the rewards of being a true disciple. “Not a Fan pushes Christians to do more than cheer from the stands,” says Idleman. “The American Christian culture needs to be challenged to live out a life devoted to Christ.”
Idleman is not alone in his quest to redefine America’s relationship with Jesus. Faith leaders, such as Max Lucado, Gov. Mike Huckabee, Craig Groeschel, Jud Wilhite and Mark Batterson are sharing the message in the upcoming campaign. “Kyle Idleman knows where we live and where we could live with God’s help. His words are, at once, profound and practical. He is committed to helping us move in the right direction. If you need a helping hand in your journey, he’ll point you to the right Person.”Max Lucado – Pastor, Oak Hills Church and Author of Fearless
“Not a Fan is truly a cutting edge study that will challenge even the most obedient Christians to re-look at their relationship with Christ. I highly recommend to individuals and churches everywhere.”
Mike Huckabee – Former Governor of Arkansas and Author of Do the Right Thing
The online movement behind Not a Fan continues to build momentum, and the candid message was recently featured on Rick Warren’s pastors.com.
“At Zondervan, we believe in Kyle and his message echoing Jesus’ call to follow,” says Don Gates, vice president of marketing. “We saw the growing momentum behind the Not a Fan movement and are excited to team with Kyle in adding to the 25,000 people whose have declared to be ‘Not a Fan.’”
