Los Angeles, California (PRWEB) October 14, 2009
Worldwide leader in aircraft management and jet charter, TWC Aviation, Inc., announced today that the company is certified to meet the International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO). IS-BAO is a strict code of best practices for corporate flight departments and jet charter companies. Growing rapidly in acceptance, IS-BAO was recently approved by the European Business Aviation Association (EBAA) through the standards-setting body of the European Union. In the official announcement, EBAA President and CEO Brian Humphries encouraged business aviation operators to move forward with IS-BAO implementation.
Comparable to ISO-9000, IS-BAO is the result of collaboration between the nonprofit International Business Aviation Council and industry organizations around the world. The code challenges flight departments to review their current systems, programs and procedures, recognize strengths and weaknesses in those procedures, and upgrade to the highest standards. While most Fortune 100 corporate flight departments have become IS-BAO Registered Operations, TWC Aviation is one of only 16 charter companies worldwide to have earned IS-BAO certification.
"We are very proud of our IS-BAO certification," says Andrew Richmond, president of TWC Aviation. "It acknowledges the high quality of our safety and operational practices, and is particularly meaningful since the audit was conducted by an internationally respected, unbiased, nonprofit organization."
IS-BAO Safety Management System
IS-BAO is built around a Safety Management System (SMS), a quality management approach to controlling risk that helps form the core of a company's safety efforts. The SMS provides company managers with a detailed roadmap for monitoring safety-related processes. "An effective SMS enhances the safety, efficiency and effectiveness of flight operations," says Don Spruston, director general of the International Business Aviation Council.
Adds Andrew Richmond, "TWC has had a formal SMS in place for just over a year, even though it is not yet required by the FAA. Our SMS has helped us identify opportunities to provide even higher levels of safety and operational excellence, and we know that it will prove a valuable tool going forward."
