Educational software company Imagine Learning announced today that Joe Swenson has been named president and CEO. Swenson—who has served as president and chief operating officer since joining the company last November—will assume the day-to-day duties of running Imagine Learning. Preator will fill a new role as Imagine Learning Executive Chairman.

Imagine Learning is a top producer of educational software products. Since its founding in 2004, the company has seen sustained revenue growth, attracting acclaim from organizations like Inc. magazine and the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year program.

“The time is right for this change,” said Preator. “Playing a part in taking Imagine Learning from a small startup to one of the leading language and literacy software companies in the world has been extremely gratifying. But I know that Joe Swenson will take Imagine Learning to the next level, helping millions of kids around the world realize their dreams.”

Swenson said he is excited to lead the mission-driven company as it strives to open doors of opportunity to students everywhere.

“The future is bright for Imagine Learning,” Swenson said. “The people here are passionate about bringing language and literacy to every child. Susan Preator assembled a remarkable team that I am privileged to now lead. And we are thrilled that she will continue to be an ambassador for our cause as Executive Chairman.”

From 2002 to 2007, Swenson served as president and CEO of DynaVox, a communication and education solutions company that saw continued revenue growth and increased market penetration under Swenson’s leadership. Prior to working with DynaVox, Swenson developed and executed corporate strategy, improved company culture and increased profits at Hill-Rom Acute Care and Hill-Rom Europe. Those achievements and others garnered recognition from peers and industry leaders alike; in 2006, Swenson was named CEO of the Year by the Pittsburgh Technology Council.

Swenson received his MBA from the Brigham Young University Marriott School of Management, where he graduated with honors. He most recently led volunteer missionary efforts in Concepción, Chile, where he was directly involved in recovery initiatives after the February 2010 earthquakes and tsunamis.
