Author John Hance argues to uncover the true beginning of World War II in his new book, “Chaos, Confusion, and Political Ignorance: June 28-August 5, 1914: The Untold Truth about the Start of World War II” (published by Trafford Publishing).

Through a series of letters, telegrams and other primary documents, Hance presents his argument that the assassination of the Archduke of Austria, Franz Ferdinand, was in fact not only the beginning of World War I, but also the beginning of World War II.

“I wanted to know what really started World War II,” Hance says. “I started with December 7, 1941, and kept researching until I found evidence as to the origins of both world wars.”

“Chaos, Confusion, and Political Ignorance” is organized into chapters by date, one chapter for almost every date from June 28, 1914 to August 5, 1914. Each chapter contains various communications to and from multiple heads of state and dignitaries as well as primary documents that lend themselves to support Hance’s argument.

“I use nothing but historical documents and keep my personal opinion out of it,” Hance says of his book. “I let the historical documents do the explaining and not me.”

Hance intends for “Chaos, Confusion, and Political Ignorance” to be the beginning of a six to eight book series with the subsequent books addressing other factors that contributed to the start of World War II such as the Franco-Prussian War of 1871, the Congress of Berlin in 1878 and the Treaty of Versailles signed in 1919.
