With the publication of the new book,
Behind the Myths: The Foundations of Judaism, Christianity and Islam” (published by AuthorHouse), author John Pickard updates the ideas of Karl Kautsky’s 1908 book, “Foundations of Christianity,” the first book that looked at the origin of that religion from a Marxist point of view.

“Behind the Myths” is an examination of the origins of Judaism, Christianity and Islam from the point of view of the world outlook developed by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels known as historical materialism. Pickard examines the evidence, challenging the traditional views of the lives of Moses, Jesus and Mohammed. Instead of gods, angels or miracles, the book looks at the economic, social and political factors that were the real origins of these three religions.

Pickard knows his book will find a ready audience. “It will appeal to that growing section of the population that is already non-religious,” he says. “These, mainly younger people, have a healthy skepticism about all organised religions and my book will underpin their skepticism and give a much more solid foundation to their secularist leanings”.
